Remakes, reboots and sequels are taking Hollywood by storm grossing more then three times the revenue of the original film. Major films studios like Colombia Picture are green lighting remakes, reboots and sequel scripts faster then originals. On December 19 Colombia Picture released Annie a musical comedy drama rebooted from 1980’s classic Annie. The film tends to differ from its original predecessor but still gives that sing-along musical feel. Critics at rottenomatoes.com gave the film a negative review but it turned out to be a box office success.

Colombia Picture isn’t stopping with the Annie’s reboot their set to release three more sequels this year. On April 17 Colombia Pictures will release Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 the sequel to the 2009 blockbuster Paul Blart: Mall Cop. This release will be Colombia Pictures tenth remake, reboot and sequel in the last six years. Other films studios like Warner Bros, Disney and Universal are cashing in on the reboot success as while.  

On January 13 shocktillyoudrop.com posted that Alfred Hitchcock’s suspenseful thriller Strangers on a Train remake is in the works. Following the success of Gone Girl Ben Affleck, Gillian Flynn and David Fincher are set to work on the film. Ben Affleck is set to play the lead role with David Fincher directing and Gillian Flynn writing the screenplay. The film is said to take place on a plane instead of a train with the title being changed to just Strangers. Warner Bros Entrainment will distribute the film but no release date is set yet. It seams like Hollywood can’t come up with anything new.
